The Journey or the Destination… what truly matters?
Good Morning,
My second semester exams begins this week which means me choosing to prioritize my mental health has finally caught up with me and I have to once again find a way to survive which ideally it’s not good but I actually don’t mind because once again I had another semester filled with fun experiences that will last me a lifetime.
oh I also won an award on Friday as the sport’s man of the year in our faculty which if I’m being honest I don’t even know what that means but I guess it came as a result of my team winning a sport tournament but I am not particularly excited about it and it got me thinking about the age old question… what truly matters, the journey or the Destination?
To be honest with you I think both are important, Without a destination (end Goal) there won’t be a journey but for you to get to the final destination there has to be a journey.
So, both work hand in hand and they are both important.
You’ve heard of so many successful people talk about how the journey is always better than the destination because at the end of the journey which is the destination, they usually feel empty inside so they presume the journey is better because they are locked in and focused that they forget the life around them.
I think that is completely wrong.
During the cause of the session, I had fun, loved every single bit of it and it was special.
But here is the thing, what made it special was not the results or even the journey because if I’m honest it wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine because I hated sacrificing my Tennis time to go coach, I hated having to call players out for training, and I hated making the tough choices like not playing someone who has been present in all the training.
I still remember the hurt I felt after we lost the third game, but I was lucky enough to have had a good support system that helped me deal with the pain
So you see the journey wasn’t particularly enjoyable but it wasn’t completely shit as well.
I loved the feeling of seeing them happy when something funny happen on the pitch, me playing football after a year out, sticking it to my doubters, asking for fit recommendation just so I looked good on the touchline and the smile on their faces at the end of every win was so worth it.
“Look I don’t know if whatever we do matters in the end but what I do know matters is the people we surround ourselves with and the indelible mark they leave upon our very being”
This quote was from Brad Pit and I agree, wherever you want to get to in life… always remember that it does not have to be lonely, sure it might be a painful journey but it does not have to be lonely and don’t allow it to be.
Surround yourself with the right people, great friends, workers and try to build a good relationship… trust me at the end of the day you will realize that is all matters because even when you lose they will always be there to pick you up and when you win… you have people to celebrate with.
So to Answer your question, The Journey or the Destination… what truly matters?
My answer is THE PEOPLE!
